1. SKYBURIAL (Denver, CO)
If you are looking for heavy, then look no further than these Denver natives. Blending pounding, downtempo breakdowns and relentless blastbeats, Skyburial is everything one could hope for in a deathmetal band. Top all of that with some of the dirtiest vocals we’ve heard in some time and you’ve got yourself a recipe for doom and despair that rivals any band you could stack against them. If you need some jams to work out that mid-day, life-is-shit tension, Skyburial should be the next thing on your playlist.
2. As For You (Des Moines, IA)
Good old Rock n’ Roll seems to be a thing of the past. But As For You sees things differently, combining hard rock melodies and composition in the likes of Seether and Breaking Benjamin. With metal inspired screaming and riffs, As For You is certainly not trying to fit into any molds. The next time you need a hard rock fix, As For You has you covered. Be sure to check them out!
3. Cell Block Earth (Detroit, MI)
Somewhere between old school hardcore punk and classic metal, one can find the intensely honest expressions of these Detriot metalheads. Nothing short of raw and self-expressive, Cell Block Earth a profound example of what heavy metal can be. Being veterans in the local music scene, Cell Block Earth is a solid reminder of where the scene has been and the roots that are so deeply ingrained in the music that developed from it.
4. Goodbye Skyline - U.S. (Florence, AL)
This acoustically-driven post-hardcore band is as inviting as it is heartfelt. With tasteful and well-composed vocal melodies and somber chord progressions, Goodbye Skyline is perfect for bringing out those tightly guarded feels. Formed in 2013, the band began as a hardcore/punk project, releasing the EP “Anywhere But Nowhere” in fall of 2014. After many changes over the years, they have evolved into something entirely its own. Make sure to keep an eye on these guys. We aren’t sure what they are up to, but whatever it is, it looks promising!
5. Set To Sail (Fredericksburg, VA)
This easycore band from Virginia will have you singing along in no time. Their first EP “Filled With Gaps” was released in fall of 2014 bringing a unique blend of post-hardcore and punk rock sounds. The album is fun, catchy and a very well produced. Since then, the band has released two singles, upping their game with each one. Bringing classic pop-punk feels reminiscent of bands like New Found Glory and Hawk Nelson (yes please), yet still maintaining their own signature sound, Set To Sail has set themselves up for a very bright future in the music industry. Be on the lookout this summer as the band is hosting a CD release show that is sure to pop off!
6. Deity (Gaithersburg, MD)
When it comes to having an engaging and theatrical sound, the band Deity is no slouch. On may 1st 2015, Deity released their first EP, Genesis. The diversity of each track showcases the band’s passion for standing out from the crowd. Striving for creativity, Deity combines eerie choruses and brutal vocals for an experience that is surely spine tingling.
7. Guard My Ways (Greensboro, NC)
Positivity and hope are not always easy to come by, but this North Carolina 5-piece is determined to bring it to everyone their music touches. With passionate verses and uplifting choruses, Guard My Ways is leading a musical revolution that is sure to ignite anyone’s enthusiasm. Whenever you need something to get you pumped, Guard My Ways, is the way to go. Their music maintains a pulsing drive that is both powerful and inspiring.
8. Along Came Tragedy (Johnson City, TN)
Along Came Tragedy is a metalcore band that brings a unique sound to their genre. Taking many different influences from bands like Bullet For My Valentine, BlessTheFall, and many more, this band surely has something for everyone. Released in 2013, their debut album Struggles and Romances put them on the map as major contenders in the metal scene. Building from that momentum, Along Came Tragedy released their most recent full length One Day, Someday. Get ready to have these catchy choruses stuck in your head all day!
9. Rig Time (La Crosse, WI)
Sometimes you just need to collapse into a seething ball of malice and anger. And nothing is more fitting for those moods than the brutal outpourings of a hardcore band. When these times come, and nothing can calm your inner 2-stepper, Rig Time will be there to make everything seem blissfully trivial again. So, the next time your boss keeps you late on show night, pop in a your Rig Time cassette and in no time you will be ready to rage your way to happiness. Make sure to get a copy of their upcoming album “Sick of It,” coming out this summer!
10. Mothersound (Los Angeles, CA)
Having performed alongside this band at The Noise Box in Brandon, Fl with my band Forthteller, I can personally vouch for the talent and prowess of this Los Angeles powerhouse. With a live performance that is engaging and captivating, Mothersound is just about everything you could ask for from a melodic metalcore band. Brutal screams, rapturous clean vocals, and a taste for raw heaviness, Mothersound will always keep you coming back for more. Be sure to check their single titled “Sticks and Stones” feat. Garrett Russell of Silent Planet.
