While winning was certainly a wonderful experience, we are equally stoked about the fact that we are able to bring more light to this issue. Since human trafficking is something that weighs heavily on our hearts here at DCNoise we thought we would share this video with all of you. The short film, named Virgil (as our aim was to lead our viewers through a different kind of hell, we thought this name was fitting), depicts the common beliefs and understandings of human trafficking as seen through candid interviews, while the dramatized storyline delivers a subversive visual narrative that contributes to a fuller understanding of the issues faced by those in human trafficking.
Many people believe that human trafficking is reserved to only those who participate in the worst kinds of evils (i.e. drug lords, pimps, etc.), but the truth is that all types of people are subject to this kind of behavior when the weight of addiction or poverty begins to overwhelm them.
Our hope with this short film is to show the depths and extenuating circumstances that are present in modern day slavery. We hope you enjoy the film, and more importantly, we hope that this film inspires you to help fight this type of unscrupulous behavior.
For anyone who is interested in learning more about this issue and how you can help fight it, we host an annual concert event called Freedom Fest. This event features speakers and organizations from all over the Tampa Bay Area who are working to fight human trafficking, as well as live music and vendors.
